Beetaloo Energy has signed a non-binding memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Halliburton to support the proposed Beetaloo Digital development, a planned integrated gas, power generation, and data center project in Australia’s Northern Territory.
Under the agreement, Halliburton will provide technical expertise to help assess and develop the upstream gas resources that would supply the project. Its expected role includes subsurface consulting, field development planning, drilling, completions, production optimization, and project execution. Halliburton could also contribute expertise in modular gas-fired power generation for hyperscale data centers and AI infrastructure.
The agreement is the latest step in Beetaloo Energy’s effort to assemble a consortium of specialist partners for the Beetaloo Digital project, which aims to combine upstream gas production with pipeline infrastructure, dedicated power generation and large-scale data center development.
The proposed development is anchored by Beetaloo Energy’s gas resources in the Beetaloo Basin and a recently secured 185-hectare site at Weddell, southeast of Darwin. Earlier this month, the Northern Territory government granted the company exclusivity over the site for the proposed project.
According to Beetaloo Energy, the development is intended to generate new electricity capacity rather than rely on the existing grid. The company says the project would build excess gas-fired generation capacity capable of supplying both hyperscale data centers and the Northern Territory with baseload power while supporting growing demand for AI infrastructure across the Asia-Pacific region.
The company said it continues discussions with additional partners covering pipeline infrastructure, power generation and data center development as it seeks to establish a joint venture for the project.
The MOU with Halliburton is non-binding, and the Beetaloo Digital project remains subject to concept studies, consortium formation, financing, regulatory approvals and other government approvals.
